Cohesion of Plot:9
A successful businessman seems to have it all; money, a nice home, a beautiful fiancé, and an upwardly mobile business. His success routine is flawless. But looks can be deceiving. He’s living the dreams of others and not himself. What’s more, he’s unhappy and doesn’t know it.
Until one day, an abrasive brush with a struggling mother provides a burst of life. It’s an unlikely interaction that might propel him in a new direction. But one his cohorts might not agree with. Thank you Mr. Perry. Good Deeds is a must see! Not since the Cosby Show have we seen such powerful imagery of successful Black people on the big screen. We needed this.
Our favorite subtly in Good Deeds was Perry’s reference to Africa as a vacation spot. Bold! Who does that in Hollywood? No one we know. That took bravery. You understand your influence, Mr. Perry. Kudos!
Africa is a beautiful place. It’s far more beautiful than the rustic images shown of it in America. The wealthy have always feared glamorizing Africa in film. The fear is American Blacks, with business acumen, would connect African Black with their natural resources and a business bond would form. That would be power.
To the layman such a simple act, as calling Africa a vacation spot, seems lightweight. But to ‘the aware’, we know it was courageous. We laud Mr. Perry. Good Deeds is a must see!
